// RAD MAG

I grew up skateboarding in Britian, I didn't have Transworld or Thrasher, all I had was R.A.D. I was working on some "old-school" research the other day and came a cross a site which is dedicated to R.A.D Magazine in the crucial years (up until 1993) the authors plan (I am assuming he used to work for the mag) is to "re-publish each magazine, a page at a time, until the whole lot is here" It's worth checking out just for the scans of "vintage ads".....more here

Ok, maybe it's not the red doors i'm drawn to as much as the Eichler architecture and California climate. Regardless, this is how i will spend my next million. // LANGLEY SCHOOLS MUSIC PROJECT

What's more awesome than Johnny Cash singing "Desperado"??......nothing. But a close second is a beautiful rendition by nine-year-old Sheila Behman. That's just the tip of the Iceberg....The Langley Schools Music Project is a 60-voice chorus of rural school children from western Canada, untrained but captivated by melodic magic, singing tunes by the Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, The Bay City Rollers, and others. The students accompany themselves with the shimmering gamelan chimes of Orff percussion, and elemental rock trimmings arranged by their itinerant music teacher, Hans Fenger.

// FAKE KICKS

Nov 14th 2006 - German customs overlooks the destruction of fake designer shoes in Hamburg, northern Germany. German customs officers have seized what they said could be the world’s largest haul of counterfeit goods, including nearly 1 million pairs of ‘knock-off’ Nike sneakers. The customs department in the northern port of Hamburg said it had confiscated a total of 117 shipping containers filled with fake goods since the end of August. The equivalent amount of genuine branded goods would be worth about euros 383 million (US$ 490 million), it said in a statement. The goods included 101 containers loaded with 945,384 pairs of counterfeit Nike sneakers, and 10 more containers with about 105,000 pairs of fake Adidas and Puma sports shoes. Also impounded were 76,760 fake watches and 1,454 toys. more at pumatalk

// STRANGER THAN FICTION

Back in the days of Indiana Jones I decided that a movies awesomeness could be attributed by the actual title font and graphics, after watching twenty seconds of "Stranger than fiction" with with Will Ferrell and Maggie Gyllenhaal I knew I was in for a treat.The plot is pretty awesome, but the aesthetics, cinematography, sets and graphic design are so slick that I want to cry.

In 1985 when I was 8 this yuppie kid that got everything new and cool on my block (when I lived in England) got a new bike. It was made by Raleigh and was called the "Vektar". With "Star Wars" styling and "Knightrider" technology including a trip meter and FM radio with presets. Sure it was pretty much a BMX with shoulderpads and makeup but it was a "must-have" for the 80's cool kids. 25 years later it's a must have for me.

// SINCLAIR C5

Some people dream of Ferrari's and others Porsche 911's, when I grow up I want a Sinclair C5, wanna know why? here's a little history: The Sinclair C5 was a battery electric vehicle invented by Sir Clive Sinclair and launched in the United Kingdom on 10 January 1985. The C5 took the form of a battery-assisted tricycle steered by handles on either side of the driver seat. Powered operation was possible making it unnecessary for the driver to pedal to make progress. It had a top speed of 15 miles per hour (24 km/h), chosen because vehicles unable to travel faster could be driven without a driver's licence in the UK.
Relatively cheap to purchase (it sold for £399 + £29 for delivery), the C5 quickly became an object of popular ridicule, and was a commercial disaster with only around 17,000 being sold. Now do you want one?
